******************Saturday 12th July 2008************************ Hi Psycho's It's been a long time since my last entry, many apologies. Had some great gigs over the past few months, The Royal Oak in Chipping Sodbury was great. The crowd really gets behind the band and demands a good show. The Cat and Wheel in May was excellent as well, with the usual made crowd singing and dancing on the seats. Rem the new manager is committed to live music and really enjoys getting up and singing with the bands. A couple of new places proved.......interesting! The White Lion in Yate was not very well attended but them that did had a good time. Once that is, they got over the fact we were a bit louder than the usual solo entertainers they get there. The Kings Arms in Bris. was very strange, no matter what we did we couldn't seem to please the landlady. It was so bad it was actually effecting our performance. and when we were told to turn the bass down so low that we couldn't hear it on stage, that was the final nail. Kev took it especially bad, as not only is he our bassist but he's also in charge of our lighting rig which also was the recipient of a lot of grief. Don't think we'll be back there soon!!!! Sad about the Old Tavern closing down. It was always a good gig. Although, after it's refit and (needed) clean up it did loose some of it's pub gig feeling, and became a bit wine bar-ish. Re-opening the men's loos next to the stage was also bad news from a bands P.O.V. It's always weird having people walk right past the stage on route for a slash!! Still it's always good to have a wide variety of gigs in Bristol and the loss of any venue is cause for regret. On a sad note, Hugh, our much put upon keyboard/guitar player has finally had enough of us and is heading off to pastures new. He's very much into acoustic music and loves going to loads of small low key festival all over the area. So, after being part of the band since it's inception in 2003, he's going left field and bumming around the countryside with an acoustic guitar and some bongo's. He really is leaving due to musical differences..... We'll all be sad to see Hugh go but wish him happiness as he follows his dream. Pissst....Any keyboard players out there looking for a gig?? Please email me if you are. Still next Friday (18th) it's the Farmhouse in Yate. This is becoming a really good gig. After a quiet start, the Friday night clientele is changing, and more people are coming to watch the bands and staying till the end rather than leaving early in order to get in to a local late night bar before 10pm. Also, on Sunday, it's the Wellington, Horfield. Don't know what it is about this place. The playing area is to cramped, the acoustics are poor but it's always a great gig. Must be something to do with the people in there! Hope to see you at one of them. Till the next time.. Paul

*******************Sunday 17th February2008*********************
The 2008 gigs have started
the same way as 2007's ended; great venues, enthusiastic crowds and some
very enjoyable evenings for audience and band alike. The only difference
being half a dozen new covers in the repertoire (well we had to do something
during those long winter evenings). Hopefully see you at one of them Cheers Darren
*****************Saturday 26 January 2008*********************** Hi Psycho's Hi All Hope you've all recovered from your Christmas and new year festivities? Can't believe it's nearly February already. We had a great NYE gig at the Wellington. Despite a few teething problems such as my amp blowing up just before the start, (Thanks Yan for the lone of your amp) Kevin's Bass amp blowing a fuse in the second song and our strobe light blowing all our mains power in the fifth! (a great drum solo Darren. No one noticed a thing!) A big thanks to Gavin, Emma and all the staff for putting on a brilliant evening and for all you people who came along. A great buffet and raffle prizes plus live Music from PDS until 1o/c. All for just a fiver! Next gigs are The Brunel 9th Feb and The Cat & Wheel on 16th Feb. (see Gig Dates page for links to the websites) Hope to see you at one of them. Till the next time Paul

********************Tuesday 30 October 2007****************** Hi Psycho's Had a couple of great gig's last week. Firstly, The Old Tavern in Fishponds then the Reckless Engineer. Great crowds, very enthusiastic and vocal. A special thanks to the crew from Stoke who, not only had to watch their team get beaten 1-0 by Bristol City but stayed till the end of our gig and missed their last train home. Also to the lady in the black evening dress. Very nice dancing!! Next gig is 10th November at the Beehive on Wellington Hill West, Horfield. A new venue for us but very local for me. Hopefully see you there! Till the next time Paul

*************Thursday 18 October 2007********** Hi Everyone Sorry for not updating the site recently, I changed my computer a while ago only to discover that the right software wasn't installed. Once I sorted that out (thanks Kev) I found I'd left the passwords on my old computer! Arghhh!! . It's been very frustrating watching the information getting more and more out of date and having people coming up to us at gigs saying We came to the such 'n' such a pub but you weren't there! Sorry again. Well, we're up and running again. As the last entry in July mention's we have a new drummer. Jerry has left for pastures new after a couple of years on our drummers stool. We wish him all the best in his new band. We'd been auditioning quite a few drummers, once Jerry advised us of his decision to leave but no one quite fitted the bill. In fact, it went right to the wire. Then, at Jerry's very last gig, The Royal Oak in Chipping Sodbury, be it luck or fate, this guy came up to us and announced he was our new drummer!! Darren Green is a very experienced and brilliant musician and has been working really hard rehearsing the set and adding quite a few new songs to the list as well. Some of these will get an airing at The Old Tavern this week and The Reckless Engineer next Saturday. Hopefully see you all there. Till the next time! Paul
11th July 2007 The psycho drummer Jerry decided recently to sell out to the better paid world of 'function bands' so we have been searching Bristol for a suitable replacement. Last night we found a compatible drummer, Darren Green and he has been initiated as the new Psycho-drummer!!
Kevin.

*******Thursday 28th June 2007******* Hi Psycho's Midweek gig's are always a bit of a bind, you know - rush home from work, get the gear loaded, work your nuts off for 5 hours, get home around 1:30, then up for work again but I can safely say that the Royal Oak in Chipping Sodbury is well worth the grief. The Thursday night crowd got right behind us from the first number and kept going until the encore, and still wanted more! With some very nice dancing from some very nice ladies it made the night worth while. A big Thanks to everyone there. Compare this to the Barrs Court Inn at Oldland Common. Where all but 6 people cared if we were there or not. In fact for the crowd playing pool, I think we got in the way of the Juke Box! Now, I don't mind a hard 'Come on then, entertain me' kind of audience, we usually rise to the occasion and try even harder, but apathy is hard to deal with. The Landlady apologised at the end of the night but she was the one that had to justify paying for the band. Hopefully they'll get the band they deserve soon! Back to The Royal Oak. it's with a heavy heart I have to announce that that gig is to be our drummer, Jerry's last as a member of The Psycho's. He's heard the call of the £ sign and gone off in search of fortune if not fame with a party/dance band. Now in the past, we've tried our hand at the odd wedding/corporate gig but I must admit that our set and attitude doesn't fit in with your average wedding guests idea of a good night, 'Stop jumping around and play a nice Beatles song' and 'Wot no Dancing Queen!!? So we stopped taking the gigs and went back to where we felt most at home. The pub! So if you're a drummer looking for a great rock band to play with, ping me an email from the 'Contact' page. On that note I'm off for a pint and watch a band We've had to cancel a couple of gigs in the middle of July but we're back at the Reckless Engineer on the 21st. Hope to see you there. Till the next time Paul

*******Saturday 15th April 2007******* Hi Psycho's It's been a really great couple of weeks, Some stonking gigs and a trip to Prague in between. At the end of March we made return visits to the Reckless Engineer and the Parish Pump in Worle. The Reckless was it's usual mad house and I think everyone had a mad time, with the audience getting a taste of Jerry's chili nan bread (with extra chili sauce!). You see it was Jerry's last day in his job and had been out celebrating since midday. When he got to the gig he was quite pissed ('Only had 5 pints of lager and 5 pints of water. Honest'!) and he brought with him his supper. Well, it seemed impolite not to offer it around, so, I took it into the audience and let them all try a bit! Yum! Very nice! The rest of the gig was great. At one point we were joined on stage by two ladies with inflatable guitars!! Not that unusual I guess. On Christmas Eve 2005 they were dressed up in Mini Santa outfits with dildo's on their heads!!! The next night it was off to the seaside (nearly) Worle W-S-M It's our second time to the Parish Pump and I will admit that although the stage position leaves a lot to be desired, you either face the bar or across an entrance, the crowd more than make up for it. Another enjoyable gig and we're back there in July.. I then spent 4 day's in Prague. A beautiful place, loads of history and fantastic buildings, lots of walking but they also have a really good music scene. On the first night I watched a great blues band, The Lubos Andrst Blues Band at the Ungelt Blues and Jazz club, just behind the Old Town Square. The main man, Lubos, has played with BB King and boy, did he know his stuff!! They also have a lot of tribute acts with the Rolling Stones, The Beatles and even Marilyn Manson all on show at the Vagon Club and the Rock Cafe. Well worth a visit. Friday the 13th April! It was a return to the Cat & Wheel. We've always had a great time here. The Landlord, Scot, really enjoys his live music and this rubs of on the Friday night crowd. If you put a bit of effort into your set and enjoy yourself, they'll match your effort, and a great night awaits. We'd like to thank Jess, who after a year or so booking the bands and working behind the bar, is off to find a normal 9 to 5 job. Don't do it!! OK! what's the future hold? Friday 20th April we're of to Barrs Court, Oldland Common. A first time here so hopefully all will go well. Then on Sunday 22nd it' s The Old Tavern in Blackberry Hill. Hope to see you there. Till the next time...... Paul

******Monday 26th March 2007****** Hi Psycho's Sorry! I've neglected my duties and not kept the news page up to date. What's been happening? Well, the Nailsea Football Club gig in February was a real hoot! Lots of noise, lots of booze and a few versions of American Pie at the end. Thanks to Spence and the boy's for another crazy night. Nothing else really happened in Feb as both myself and Jerry were off skiing, Old Chap!
Next up it was The Portcullis, Fishponds. Now Landlord Steve and Arlene have worked bloody hard to build up The Portcullis as a live music venue. With a Jazz on Sunday and a Blues Jam on Thursdays (I can really recommend this as it's the best Jam night I've been to in many a year and the fact that it attracts a good size (none muso) audience is great. Now Steve wants to have a regular rock night on a Wednesday and on the 14th March, The Psycho's were the second band to fill the spot. A decent size audience turned out, although with the amount of smoke we used, I couldn't see them most of the time!!
It's a great venue and I'm sure it will go from strength to strength. Make sure you give it your support.
On Tuesday 20 March went to see Walter Trout at the Fleece. Fish by name, Awesome guitarist by nature, and a really nice bloke to boot! Came away very inspired and humbled...
Next up, we get a call from Simon, the new music manager of The Old Tavern in Blackberry Hill. The band they'd booked for the Grand Re-opening had pulled out and could we step in? Now I was just lying on my private beach, sunning myself, so it was no contest. A great crowd turned out and we had a ball... Simon intends to keep the Old Tav as a live music venue on a Sunday night with an acoustic night on Wednesday's. We're back there again on April 22dn so hope to see you there. Smokin!
Next night, Sunday 25th March was a return to The Wellington, Gloucester Road. Our last gig there was New Years Eve and that was awesome. This time we entertained the Bristol rugby fans as Bristol had just played (and beat) Northampton so the crowd were 'lively' to say the least. What a great venue. Can't wait to play there again later n the year. A big thanks to all the bar staff for keeping it sane. They are the best staff I've seen around any large bar
That
was last week, so what does this week hold? Friday 30th March it's a return to The Reckless Engineer, always a great venue to play with a real mix of people these day's. Then it's off to the seaside on Saturday 31st March. Well nearly, Worle, W-S-M. The Parish Pump. Last time, we weren't allowed to leave the stage until we'd played another tune, then another and then another and so it went on for about an hour after our normal finishing time.
Great Stuff!!
Hope to see you at a gig soon.
Till the next time...... Paul Psycho-Delia Smith Cooking up a storm!
