Kevin, the bass player for PDS, had said to the Old Tavern’s music promoter that a couple of lads from The Mudheads were coming tonight so that they might “learn how it’s done”……..well……..I think he may have had a point.
As the discussion of originals verses covers and tribute bands wages on through the pages of Bristol Rocks, this particular covers band had their audience singing along to every number like a bunch of teenage girls at a McFly concert.

Every song, which originated mainly from the hey day of the 70’s, was played with enthusiasm and was a tight as an Italian waiters trousers. The band proved that they are really are great musicians time and time again throughout the evening. In fact, my colleague, son and fellow band member never tired at telling me how much better a bass player Kevin was than me…..and he can carry a pretty good vocal as well. Git!

The rhythm section as was tight as you like giving a great frame work for guitarists Paul and Hugh to hang some truly great time honoured toons on.

They also have a light show that most bands would sacrifice their drummer’s right arm for. It certainly helped put them in a league above your average, stuck in a corner playing Smoke On the Water Pub Rock band.

I have searched hard for a niggle, just to have balance, and to prove that I am not in the bands employ. The only thing I could find isn’t a negative it’s more of a asking for a cherry on top of the icing on top of the cake. Both Paul and Kevin have great singing voices and I wondered why they never sang harmonies for each other. As I said, it didn’t spoil anything…..I just love that kind of thing being a singer myself.

I’m not really that experienced at writing reviews, so I don’t know exactly what kind of thing that one is supposed to write. However, I do know what I like, and I did enjoy myself last night. AND, before you ask. I was driving and so I wasn’t wearing beer goggles. I was stone cold sober and objective.

As a member of the Bristol music community I am as competitive as the next man. However, I can heartily recommend Psycho Delia Smith and would encourage you to go and see them the next time they are playing near you, which judging by the amount of gigs they are playing should be in a week or two.
