Darren

My parents believed that children should be seen and not heard, and as an act of rebellion I took up the drums so that I could be heard and not seen. Early influences were Clem Burke from Blondie, Gilson Lavis from Squeeze and Animal from the Muppets, and I started gigging in a mod-revival band just as the mod-revival finished.
At college I joined a band and our claim to fame was playing on the same stage as The Housemartins and The Bangles, albeit a month after The Housemartins had played it and a fortnight before The Bangles did.
After college I had a long stint in various incarnations of a covers band called Delirious, and we played a number of Corporate gigs (smile and think of the money), weddings (smile and watch the Uncles and Aunts dancing) and parties (smile cos it's such good fun) around the southwest and beyond.
That came to an end when families and careers stopped us getting together to practice (the guitarist and bassist live 150 miles apart, a pretty good arrangement most of the time), and I stopped playing for a while until I saw Psycho Delia Smith playing in my local.

They announced it was their drummer's last gig and so fuelled by a desire to play their songs, and a small amount of Guinness, I asked them if they were looking for a new drummer. Whether it was my good looks, easy charm or the fact that I had a drumkit, I'm not sure, but here I am.

When I'm not drumming I run a marketing agency and when I'm not doing that I spend time with friends and my three daughters. If you want to know anything else, come and ask me at a gig. Best to do it early doors cos I get a bit sweaty.
