I'm Hugh and I
play rhythm guitar and a bit of piano I'm the oldest in the
band and my earliest musical influences were John Mayall, from 1967 and
eversince), John Martyn, Pat Metheney, Pink Floyd (from the earliest times
when Syd Barrett was with them), Bert Jansch, Paul Brady, Tom Waits and of
course Bob Zimmerman.............
I've busked most of my life and people say I still do, but in a
band............actually I "busk" life altogether...........
I lived in West London for ages from 1968 to 1988 and played in amateur
bands called "Heavy Sausage" and the "Paddington Interstellar Trucking
Company Limited", (thats the kind of names bands got called in the 70's!).
The biggest concert I've played, was to an audience of more than 1500
people at the University of London Union. It was playing Greek folk music,
alongside students of Mikis Theodorakis, in a pro democracy concert against
the Greek Military Junta in the early 70's. (I've always liked political
music, Guthrie , Seeger, Billy Bragg etc)
I was part of Rhythm Method a 7 piece R&B band from North Bristol a couple
of years ago...............very character forming.............!
My equipment...........!"£$%^&* ...........most of my guitars are
inexpensive but have been heavily tweaked by Johnny Kinkade, (my favourite
local guitar maker/repairer), and he makes my mediochre old guitars sound a
million dollars!
I put Seymour Duncans in solid bodied guitars, and always Fishman pickups
and preamps in my Yamaha and Washburn acoustic guitars. |
